THE FULL LYRICS

Michael Bryan is a man of two worlds: the soulful, fog-draped mountains of East Tennessee and the Carolinas where his roots run deep, and the buzzing streets of Nashville, NYC, and LA, where he’s spent years shaping the soundscape of modern music. Most recently, as the Global Head of Country Music at Apple, Michael brought his impactful approach to one of the most influential platforms- and genres- in the industry.

Raised in the rhythms of the South, Michael was steeped in the sounds that would later define his career. From marching band to jazz kit, he found his tempo and his calling. He cut his teeth in the family business-his father’s small AM radio station-where he learned to coax magic out of the airwaves, spinning records and weaving tales that resonated far beyond the mountain’s borders. These early days, where he became captivated by the mystery and mastery of radio, laid the groundwork for a career that would blend the traditional with the innovative.

At Apple, Michael served as a strategic and creative force behind the company’s global editorial operations and audio production, leading worldwide teams to publish thousands of hours of original programming and connect artists with audiences around the globe. He transformed operations by pioneering new tools, building a culture of creativity, and setting the stage for a new era of music discovery and storytelling.

Michael also returned his focus to country music nearly five years after first joining Apple to orchestrate the launch and meteoric rise of Apple Music Country Radio. He crafted a platform that wasn’t just about music but about moments-intimate, raw, and real. His knack for amplifying the voices that needed to be heard transformed the way country music was experienced, broadcasting the heartbeats of Nashville to over 165 countries. It was here that Michael’s philosophy of “artist-focused cultural change” came to scale, where the old-timey twang of a guitar met the sleek sheen of digital innovation.

Before Apple, at Creative Artists Agency, Michael helped create a highway for artists where they could not only perform but expand their voice. From scouting raw talent at writer’s rounds to coaching household names through the unpredictable waves of fame, he’s been a steady hand, offering sage advice and fierce advocacy. His approach has never been about simply finding the next big thing-it’s about crafting careers, building lasting relationships, and ensuring that each artist can shine with authenticity and purpose.

As SVP of Programming at iHeartMedia, Michael transformed a group of five radio stations by recruiting talent and executing a vision that elevated audience engagement and profitability. He was instrumental in launching The Bobby Bones Show, helping turn the host into a country music star. Known for his keen eye for talent, Michael provided early radio exposure to artists like Ed Sheeran, Dan + Shay, and Hozier, and pioneered artist-first programming with legends like Joe Walsh from The Eagles and Dave Mustaine from Megadeth.

In a career-defining role at Clear Channel, Michael revitalized legacy pop station XL 106.7 with an all-killers-no-fillers approach, leading to four No.1 rating years and doubling the station’s revenue to make it a market leader. His knack for spotting talent early brought artists like Adele, Kings of Leon, and Katy Perry to the airwaves, earning him a spot on Edison Media’s 30 Under 30 list.

Michael remains grounded in the values that his upbringing instilled in him. There’s a straightforwardness to his leadership, a folky charm that blends seamlessly with his sophisticated understanding of the industry’s complexities; he’s as comfortable discussing cutting-edge tech as he is reminiscing about the first time he heard a banjo sing.

As Michael looks toward what’s next, he carries forward the same vision that has guided his career: a belief in music’s power to reflect who we are and connect us at our core. “Country music,” he says, “captures the heartbeat of America-the stories of everyday life, love, loss, and everything in between.” For him, the genre remains a keyhole into the broader cultural conversation. “It’s where our diverse voices find expression, speaking to the core of what it means to live in this country.”

Michael is also deeply committed to promoting mental health awareness within the industry, believing that the stories told through music can offer solace and understanding. “It’s about making sure both artists and fans feel seen and heard—creating a culture where emotional well-being is valued as much as the music itself.”

Now on sabbatical and reflecting on two decades of shaping sound, story, and strategy across the industry, Michael is exploring new opportunities that align with his vision for the future of creativity, technology, and culture. He lives in Nashville with his wife, Cara, with visits from his two children, Greta and Sophia, who bring their own kind of music to his life. Away from the studio, you might find him on his drum kit, in his cabin, or outside casting a line into a clear mountain stream-seeking the kind of quiet only nature can offer. It’s in these trees, surrounded by the whispers of the wind and the songs of the river, that Michael finds his balance, his center, and his true north.

If you’re not crazy there’s something wrong with you.
